The Eltham Major Activity Centre (MAC) Structure Plan provides the following vision for the Eltham activity centre:

Eltham MAC will be a focus for community life, and provide a wide range of residences, shopping and professional services, and places to meet and recreate. Residents, workers and visitors will enjoy an attractive, distinctive, indigenous, safe and highly accessible urban environment.

Eltham MAC Design Guidelines (2009 – draft)

These Design Guidelines have been prepared to guide the future development of land within the Eltham MAC to ensure that new buildings and works are of a high quality and reflect the preferred character of the area. These Design Guidelines are intended to be used by anyone who is interested or involved in the planning and development process (landowners, designers, developers, community, Council etc) to better understand how to suitably respond to local planning policies and design controls associated with the Eltham MAC.

Each precinct has its own guideline, and Part A contains design objectives common to all precincts, with additional detailed provided for each precinct within the specific Part B guideline.

Amendment C51 proposes to implement the Eltham Major Activity Centre Structure Plan.

Bridge Street Business Precinct Urban Design Framework 

In 2003, the Bridge Street Business Precinct Urban Design Framework was completed. This Urban Design Framework examines landscape, urban design, traffic and future land use planning directions within the Bridge Street Business Precinct.
