Urban Fringe Weed Management Initiative
A strategic land-scape-scale approach to weed control is being implemented in the Warrandyte to Kinglake Habitat Corridor.
The Urban Fringe Weed Management Initiative is a four-year weed management project designed to improve the natural values of public land within Melbourne’s peri-urban areas. The Victorian Government has allocated Nillumbik up to $500,000 of the $4 million initiative to tackle weeds on public land within the Warrandyte to Kinglake Habitat Corridor. To complement this funding Nillumbik Shire Council is matching dollar for dollar work on Council reserves. Under the project, government agencies – Nillumbik Shire Council, Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE), Melbourne Water, Parks Victoria and VicRoads – are working together to manage weeds in the Corridor. This complements the existing weed management initiatives of the project partners, other government agencies, environment groups and private landholders. This new funding and forum for land managers to work together means this project provides a real opportunity to get on top of some of the high threat weeds in the corridor, while providing a strategic direction into the future.

Rabbit Action Plan
Rabbits are a major threat to biodiversity and agricultural production in Nillumbik. They have a significant impact on the economy, the environment and community.
The management of rabbits is driven by state and federal legislation and policies including the legal requirement, under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994, for landowners to control and prevent the spread of rabbits.
This Rabbit Action Plan and all rabbit control activities undertaken by Nillumbik Shire Council operate within this context.
