Roadside fuel reduction burn program

Council and CFA have developed a Roadside Fuel Reduction Burn Program to be conducted during late summer and autumn. The loctions are:

  • Oatlands/Memorial Drive Plenty – completed
  • Armstrong/Westgarth Street Plenty
  • Boyds Rd Hurstbridge and
  • Eisemans Rd Yarrambat

Planned burns depend on local weather conditions and can be subject to confirmation or cancellation at short notice.

Residents living in the vicinity of the works should receive a letter advising of the burn and roadside signage will be erected at the start and finish locations of the burn.

Roads in burn areas will have restricted public access and there are could be delays while burns takes place.

Residents in the vicinity of the works are advised to keep doors and windows closed; bring washing inside; keep pets inside and elderly people or those with respiratory problems should remain indoors.

Why are burns conducted?

Planned burns are part of Council’s fire prevention works. Planned burns have the additional benefit of controlling a range of woody weeds, grass and other weeds that are present.

How is it managed?

A burn plan is developed and will address criteria such as area of the burn, asset protection, traffic management and ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the area post burn.
