Goodwill Grants

Council will embody the spirit of Christmas giving by offering Goodwill Grants of up to $1500 for worthy projects for each of the seven wards. Community and non-profit groups or clubs with an idea to spread goodwill or an activity or event can apply.  

Council will also continue to work with Traders Associations and the local Chamber of Commerce to fund festive street decorations in Eltham, Diamond Creek, Hurstbridge and Rural townships. 

Applications open 24 September 2018 and close Friday 19 October at 12noon 

Grant value  

Maximum per application $1500  
Total pool available $12000 


  • Grant applications open Monday 24 September 2018 
  • Grant application close 12pm Friday 19 October 2018 
  • Projects must be undertaken between 19  November and 25 December 2018 

Grants could be used for  

  • Community projects, events and activities  
  • Materials and equipment  
  • Artist, consultant or provider fees  
  • Pilot programs  
  • Promotional materials  
  • Venue hire charges and signage 

Selection criteria

Preference will be given to applications

  • That demonstrate strong community partnerships 
  • That are new and innovative 
  • That occur in a public place or space 
  • That are community led and have community and public interest and sustainability outcomes considered 
  • Which the applicant has the capacity to deliver

Grants will not be given to  

  • Private events or activities including those of clubs, not for profits and community groups which do not include public participation beyond your own membership and participants 


  • Incorporated non-profit community groups/ organisations or unincorporated groups which are auspiced by an incorporated body that will deliver activities/projects in Nillumbik. 
  • Minimum $10 million public liability insurance and a Certificate of Currency. 
  • No outstanding grant acquittals from a previous Nillumbik Shire Council grant.

  1. Call 9433 3111 and ask to speak to Mel Holt or Anna Maio who are part of the Place Activation Unit, to discuss your idea 
  2. Read the guidelines and selection criteria

print a copy of the form, complete it and deliver it to the Civic Centre, Civic Drive, Greensborough

If you hand deliver or mail the form you must provide copies of  

  • Public Liability Insurance Certificate  
  • Certificate of Currency 
  • Quotes for any services or products required for the project 
  • Emails or letters of support from partner organisations 


Applications open 24 September 2018 and close Friday 19 October at 12noon   

The Place Activation Unit will assess the applications within two weeks of the closing date

Payments will be made to successful applicants two weeks after applications have been assessed. 

Grant writing workshops

Help strengthen your grant writing skills by developing an understanding of what grant holders are looking for and how to best 'sell' your project. These grant writing workshops are free, but bookings are essential.
