L2P Driver Mentor Program

The Nillumbik L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program is for young people in the Nillumbik Shire having difficulties getting their mandatory 120 hours of driving lessons before they can apply for their licence. The Hurstbridge, Diamond Creek and Eltham Community Bendigo Bank branches are proud supporters of the L2P program which is funded by TAC, and managed by VicRoads in conjunction with Nillumbik Shire Council.

L2P Program

I am writing to thank the Nillumbik L2P Program.

It was a very daunting time knowing that our triplets were about to turn 16 and were keen to get their L’s. We had a big feat in trying to clock up 120 hours x 3 children, looking after 2 elderly parents as well as my husband away with work most weeks.

I had heard about the L2P program from a friend who also has triplets and set out to contact Nillumbik Shire Council to find out about this program.

Once I put in an application form for the boys and the boys were interviewed by Mary Marcon, they were matched with a Mentor each.

Matt gained Jon as his mentor, Nathan gained Geoff as his mentor and Jamie gained Sergio as his mentor (unfortunately Sergio could not continue) and then was swapped over to Peter.

The boys gained valuable driving experience, confidence to be safe drivers and the opportunities that come with gaining a driver’s licence as well as making a great friend with their Mentors.

This program is really important in helping those in need of driving lessons when a parent cannot help due to unforseen reasons.

I would sincerely like to thank all the mentors that volunteer their time to this wonderful program, without you, this program could not run. I would also like to thank Mary Marcon, who works hard with matching mentors to drivers as well as organizes meetings with mentors and drivers.

It has been a long and fulfilling journey watching our boys have their weekly lessons with their mentors and eventually gaining their drivers licence.

Yours Sincerely,

Anna and Paul
