Instalment reminder

The thrid 2011/2012 rates instalment is due Tuesday 28 February 2012.

Payment dates

In Nillumbik rates must be be paid quarterly instalments:

  • 30 September
  • 30 November
  • 28 February
  • 31 May

You may also pay any combination of instalments so long as the minimum quarterly amount is paid by the due date.  

Payment methods

  • Australia Post Office: Visit any post office with your rates notice to make payment using cash, cheque, money order or EFTPOS (credit and debit cards are accepted  - except Diners Club and American Express). 
  • BPAY: If your bank offers BPAY you can pay your rates by phone or internet directly from your bank account. Call your financial institution and follow the voice prompts. Your biller code and reference number are on your rates notice (credit cards not accepted). 
  • Postbillpay: Contact Australia Post by phone on 13 18 16 or by Internet via the following payment link Postbillpay. 
  • Civic Centre: You can pay your rates in person at the Civic Centre between 8.30am - 5pm Monday - Friday (except public holidays)
     

Interest charges

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1989 interest is charged on overdue rates and charges. Interest on instalments are charged back to the relevant due date of that instalment (see above). The penalty interest rate for the 2011-2012 rating year as set by the Attorney General under the Penalty Interest Act 1983 is 10.5% p.a. (Please note: interest continues to be charged on overdue rates and charges until all arrears together with interest are paid in full.)
 

Concessions

Pension Concession Cards are issued by Centrelink or the Department of Veterans Affairs.

To be eligible for the rebate you must hold one of the following cards:

  • Centrelink - Pensioner Concession Card
  • DVA - Gold Card (TPI) or Gold Card (War Widow)

Cardholders are entitled to a rebate of rates on their principle place of residence. Please present your card at the Council office and an application will be made to the Department of Human Services.

Health Care Cards do not entitle ratepayers to a rate rebate
 

Amount of rebate

Eligible cardholders receive up to a maximum of $193.40 for the 2011/2012 rating year.
 

Applications

Applications for the current year may be received from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012.
