Aged and Disability Services bus trips
Council currently provides shopping trips for older people, people with a disability and their carers who are transport disadvantaged.
The bus runs on the following days:
- Monday - Greensborough Shopping Centre
- Tuesday - Diamond Creek Senior Citizens Club
- Wednesday - Greensborough Shopping Centre
- Every Second Friday - Epping Plaza/Plenty Valley Westfield/Northcote Plaza / Preston Market

The bus is driven by volunteer drivers.
Thursday Community Bus
This bus is reserved for people who cannot drive themselves. It is aimed at residents who are older or living with a disability and who live in Hurstbridge, Panton Hill, Smiths Gully, St Andrews and surrounds.

The bus route
The main destinations are in Hurstbridge, Diamond Creek, Greensborough and Eltham. It can pick you up from and return you to your home (or other location of your choice). You can use the Thursday Community Bus to get to:
- Local doctors
- Train stations
- Nillumbik Community Health Service in Eltham
- Living & Learning Centres
- Eltham Library
- General Stores/Post Offices to pick up your mail
- To visit a friend who lives in Nillumbik
- Diamond Creek, Greensborough or Eltham shops
Is there a space for my wheelchair on the bus?
Yes, there is a wheelchair hoist or you can transfer to a seat if you prefer. All the drivers have completed training so that they can safely assist people who use a wheelchair.

The Thursday Local Trips Service is delivered through a partnership between LINK Community Transport, Nillumbik Shire Council, and it is coordinated through the Nillumbik Transport Connections Program. This service is funded by the Transport Connections Partners listed above and by the Victorian Government under the Transport Connections Program.

This community bus service operates Monday to Friday and is a service for older people and people with a disability who are Home and Community Care eligible. The service can be used by Nillumbik residents to get to recreational and social activities such as shopping, going to the library, the leisure centre, attending a club and meeting friends. The bus will pick you up from your door and take you to your destination and back home again.
How do I get on the LINK bus?
Call LINK on 9355 8484. The LINK intake worker will conduct a phone assessment to make sure you are eligible for the service. Then you will be asked to nominate the trip that you want to take. LINK may not be able to meet your request immediately but if they know that you want to travel with them they will work towards getting you on the bus. For information Link community transport
Transport to Medical appointments
It is important that you tell your doctor (specialist, nurse or hospital) if you have trouble transporting yourself to your medical appointments. Your doctor or specialist can refer you to free patient transport services, but they are unlikely to refer you unless they know you need transport assistance. The Red Cross, Ambulance Victoria and hospitals operate free patient transport services for people who need transport assistance to get to and from appointments.
Love in the name of Christ
Cost - donations accepted
Love in the name of Christ is a local church group which provides limited medical transport for people who need assistance travelling to their medical appointments. For information Ph: 9431 3022 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am-12pm.
Medical Companions
For medical appointments in Melbourne
Cost: free
If you book a Medical Companion you will be met by a volunteer guide at Southern Cross Station or Flinders Street Station. The guide will then accompany you to and from your medical appointment in central Melbourne. If you wish to use the service, Ph: 1300 700 399. Bookings are essential and 24 hours notice is required. Public Transport
Accessible Public Transport - Low floor buses
The majority of public transport buses that run through Nillumbik are the new wheelchair accessible low floor buses with ramps. Call Metlink on 131 638 6am - midnight daily to find out which bus route you need and where the nearest stop is. You can ring the bus company and let them know which bus you will be travelling on with your wheelchair or scooter - the company will be able to confirm that the service will be a low floor bus.
