Nillumbik Shire Council has delivered on its promise to introduce green waste vouchers, giving residents the flexibility to recycle garden materials and vegetation at the Recycling and Recovery Centre in Plenty at a convenient time throughout the year.

Nillumbik Shire Council Mayor, Cr Peter Clarke said, “Residents who pay the waste management charge as part of Council rates will receive three green waste vouchers with their rates notice. The vouchers have unique barcodes registered against your property address.”

“The new system means you get to choose a time that is convenient to use your green waste vouchers, they are valid until 31 July 2018, so there is plenty of time to pick a day that works best for you,” Cr Clarke said.

“This reform will allow greater flexibility and choice to residents. Residents will be able to dispose of green waste at a convenient time and not be restricted to a designated weekend. It is a tangible measure of how this Council is approaching old practices with fresh thinking.”

Vouchers are for one cubic metre of domestic green waste like prunings, garden clippings, leaves or grass or one level 6 x 4 sized trailer load or less. Loads larger than this will require two vouchers.

Residents with gardening contractors can provide their voucher/s to the contractor to dispose of green waste on your behalf. For rental properties, property owners may pass the vouchers on to their tenants or use your green bin, which is picked up weekly.

Green waste must be clean and not contain processed wood such as treated pine, fence palings or untreated timber and must not include any food waste.

Residents can also get an additional green bin ($80 one off charge) which is the most convenient option as it is picked up weekly.
