Good health and wellbeing is vital for all stages of life, which is why Council’s Health and Wellbeing Plan 2017-2021 is so important to our community.

Council has prepared a four-year Draft Health and Wellbeing Plan to focusing on key health priorities to improve the lives of our residents and is now seeking input into the final Plan.

The Draft Plan includes priorities for health and wellbeing in Nillumbik for 2017 – 2021 which are to:

  • promote healthy and sustainable food
  • encourage active living
  • enhance mental wellbeing
  • advance gender equality and respectful relationships
  • prevent harm from alcohol, other drugs and gambling
  • improve sexual and reproductive health
  • support healthy ageing.

The Draft Plan was developed through extensive community engagement including surveys, workshops, discussions with targeted population groups and meetings with health sector agencies and partners.

Nillumbik Shire Council Mayor, Cr Peter Clarke said this Draft Plan includes priorities to increase the health and wellbeing of our residents through social, environmental and economic features.

“These features encourage good health and wellbeing and align with the vision and direction of our Council Plan," Cr Clarke said.

Chair of Council’s Community Services Committee, Cr Jane Ashton said the Draft Plan details Council's goals and strategies to enhance livability in Nillumbik.

“We aspire to be a community that is safe, socially cohesive, inclusive and environmentally sustainable with affordable and diverse housing options, employment, education, open space, vibrant local businesses, community services, leisure and cultural opportunities here,” Cr Ashton said.
