Home>Waste & Recycling
Nillumbik Shire Council and its residents are committed to reducing the total amount of materials thrown away in line with the State Government's waste minimisation strategy for zero landfill by 2020. We continue to work with our residents, the state and federal governments to support the development of the green organics industry.

| We have implemented a multifaceted approach to waste management through waste policy, waste and recycling services, waste education, materials efficiency and partnerships.
Recycling reduces the need to use up our raw materials which come from the environment. By reducing the demand we place on the environment, we also reduce power consumption and save on renewable and non-renewable resources.
Landfill and the reduction of waste we contribute to landfill is also an important factor in recycling. It is important that we choose items that can be recycled rather than products that end up as landfill.
