Nillumbik Council plays a major role in planning, coordinating and implementing public health throughout the municipality. The Environmental Health Services Unit is part of the Health and Community Services Section which has overall responsibility to provide services resulting in the improved health and wellbeing of the Shire communities. The Unit operates in accordance with the Health Act 1958 and Food Act 1984 which are the two main pieces of legislation providing regulatory powers to Council.
The future direction of the Unit, as highlighted in the Best Value Review, is to continue to improve the health and wellbeing of Nillumbik residents and its visitors through compliance with Public Health legislation and good practice. This will be enhanced by the ongoing implementation of the Nillumbik Municipal Public Health Plan and strategies identified in the Best Value Unit Plan.
