News>Watering of sportsgrounds
| As part of Council’s commitment to developing sustainable sportsgrounds we are currently implementing a warm season grass conversion program at the following locations.
AE Cracknell Reserve (Panton Hill) Eltham Rugby Field Eltham Lower Eltham Park (back oval)
To establish the warm season grass these sportsgrounds require an intense watering program. To achieve this we have received a water allocation from Yarra Valley Water under an approved water management plan.
Watering is scheduled for approximately five nights a week for three to four hours at a time. Watering will occur only in the evenings and be monitored by rain gauges which will automatically turn off the watering system when it rains.
Once established, this grass will provide a better playing surface which will require significantly less water to maintain.
