News>Council defers permit parking for Eltham traders
| The permit parking fee for Eltham traders and employees along the newly-constructed Eltham circulatory road has been deferred following a recent Council decision.
At a Special Meeting held on Tuesday 23 December, the Council endorsed the following Notice of Motion moved by Wingrove Ward Councillor, Helen Coleman.
That Council:
1. Defer the implementation of the decision of Council on 29 July 2008 to introduce a revised permit parking fee along the new Eltham circulatory road. 2. Refund any payments already made to Council for circulatory road parking permits. 3. Continue the existing parking permit system at $10 per annum until 31 December 2009 or a future date determined by Council, and such system to be managed by Council. 4. Defer consideration of any user-pays parking scheme in Eltham until Council has: a. Considered the findings of the Sustainable Transport Study and Strategy currently being prepared b. undertaken detailed consultation with the Eltham Chamber of Commerce and Industry, local traders and employees including with respect to parking allocation, time limit needs and previous contributions of land and money made by traders and developers.
Earlier in the meeting the Council received and noted a petition containing 3091 signatures to remove parking permits for the all day parking along the Eltham circulatory road.
