Call for Entries: Alan Marshall Short Story Competition  Printer Friendly

The Alan Marshall Short Story Award competition is in its 25th year and Nillumbik Shire Council in partnership with Yarra Plenty Regional Library Service invites writers from across Australia to enter.

The competition is held in memory of the great writer and former Eltham resident, Alan Marshall.

Judging the 2010 competition is best-selling short fiction author, Michael McGirr. Mr McGirr’s short stories have been published in Australia and overseas. He was also fiction editor of Meanjin for five years.

The Alan Marshall Short Story Award is offered in the following categories:
 
 The Open Section with a $2000 first prize and a $1000 second prize for stories up to 2500 words, open to writers residing anywhere in Australia.
 The Local Writers’ Section with a $1000 prize for a story up to 2500 words, open to writers who live, work or study in the Shire of Nillumbik.
 The Young Writers’ Section with a $400 prize for a story up to 1000 words, open to all young people aged between 15 and 19 years, residing anywhere in Australia.
