Thinking about downsizing?
A quarter of Nillumbik residents are currently over 55 and by 2036, that will become one in three. In the last Census, Nillumbik saw an increase of 2,500 people aged over 60 and at the same time there was a decrease of 2,000 people aged under 60. This is the biggest differential in this category across Melbourne.
Nillumbik also has the highest proportion of freestanding houses and the highest rate of four bedroom or larger houses in Melbourne (45 per cent). This presents significant challenges and opportunities as the community ages and considers moving to smaller houses with smaller gardens.
We have been holding consultations and conducted a survey to find out about the reasons and barriers to downsizing and what role you believe Council could play.
