First things first. What is a flashmob?
Wikipedia says 'a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform a seemingly pointless and unusual act for a brief time, then disperse'.
Seemingly pointless… perhaps.
Actually pointless? No.
And here's why.
Flashmobs are good for your health…that’s right… you heard it here first!
The 52 Flashmobs project is proud to be funded by VicHealth’s Motion Program. Its part of a pilot which is adding to the body of research that shows that participating in the arts is good for your health. So…you’ve eaten your vegies and now it’s time to get out there and have some fun! It’s just what the doctor ordered…
Anyone in Nillumbik can be a part of this project: as a participant, a spectator, a filmmaker, an organiser, a passerby or just a member of a conversation that starts with "Guess what I just saw!" and ends with "Wow"!
It's an opportunity to find out about community and art groups in Nillumbik, meet new people, do something extraordinary and shake up the old routine.
If 52 Flashmobs was a T-shirt, it would read 'you don’t have to be creative to enjoy the arts, just get involved'.
If 52 Flashmobs was a Prime Minister, it would say ‘this is a great way to bring every kind of person together and create a stronger sense of community in Nillumbik.'
If 52 Flashmobs was a health brochure, it would say ‘this is really good for you!'
And to us, 52 Flashmobs = Adventure.
That's why we're doing 52 of them in 52 weeks, starting November 2011 and ending November 2012. A year long festival of surprises.
Join up and see what happens. Life's too short to let adventures like this pass you by...
