Celebrates and highlights publications by leading writers across all genres that promote a deep understanding of social, cultural, political and literary indigenous issues. The sessions encourage discussion and reflection. Past speakers have included Uncle Bob Randall, Howard Morphy, Kim Scott, Alexis Wright, Anita Heiss and Larissa Behrendt. Past Matters is supported by Nillumbik Shire Council, Nillumbik Reconciliation Group and Australian Indigenous Studies University of Melbourne.

New Voices Literary Festival 2012

This festival exists to promote and introduce first time published writers and poets to the reading community, book clubs and aspiring writers. In conversation with award winning established authors the speakers share valuable insights into the craft of writing and publishing. Creative writing exercises form interludes during the festival. The sessions include local school publications and emerging music groups.

Hurstbridge Wattle Festival 2012

Celebrating 100 Years of Rail in Nillumbik! Board the K Class steam locomotive and view the wattle in a blaze of glory along Diamond Creek as you approach the historic Hurstbridge Township and The Wattle Festival. The steam train arrives in the centre of town where there will be a day of fabulous food, music, roving entertainment and free activities. It is a joyous celebration of Heritage, Environment, Community and Rail History; and the perfect day of family fun.

World Matters Literary Festival 2012

Under the chairmanship of Morag Fraser OA, this literary feast explores human rights, International politics, social justice and environmental issues through world literature and music. The aim is to establish awareness that the world is a small family and to promote peaceful, non-violent solutions to challenges that face us. Leading international, national and local writers are invited to discuss their books and ideas and to open up fresh frontiers of thought and action. Diamond Valley Oxfam and Medical Association for Prevention of War help in the planning and presentation of the discussions.

Practically Green Festival 2012

First held in 2008 the festival offers practical and simple ideas to help you and your family live sustainably. The Festival showcases the very best in sustainable building technologies– all in a fun festival-style, family atmosphere. Come and enjoy the food, free children's entertainment, music and free workshops!

 

'On the Hill' Panton Hill Festival 2012

The ‘On the Hill’ Festival in Panton Hill is a popular day out for the whole family with live music, fantastic food and a terrific line up of entertainment to suit the whole family.  Well known for its fabulous program of music, this year’s ‘Music in the Park’ includes local musicians: Black Cat Bone, the Leslie Avril Band and, the not to be missed duo, Greg Champion and Gary Carruthers. Come and enjoy fabulous roving entertainers, wandering minstrels and a mix of international food to tempt your taste buds. There will also be free face painting, horse and cart rides and fun activities for the kids.

Rotary Eltham Town Festival 2012

Welcome Platypus Festival 2013

The Welcome Platypus festival seeks to celebrate the natural environment of Hurstbridge as well as raise awareness of environmental issues, especially in regards to our waterways and native fauna.
