About the project

After 10 years in the making, the Community Bank Stadium is now open.

The centre was opened on Friday 10 February 2012, by Nillumbik Shire Mayor, Councillor Michael Young, Mr Rob Mitchell, Federal Member for McEwen, Mr Craig Ondarchie, Member for Northern Metropolitan Region, Barry Henwood from Valley Financial Services and hundreds of children from Diamond Valley College and Diamond Creek East Primary School.

At a cost of $10.5m the project would not have been possible without the generous support of our funding partners.

Nillumbik Shire Council would like to thank the Community Bank (Hurstbridge, Diamond Creek and Eltham), Commonwealth Government and the State Government for helping us to provide a facility that will be much loved by the Nillumbik community for years to come.

Stadium management and programs

Congratulations to the YMCA for being appointed by Council to manage the stadium, which offers a:

  • café
  • performing arts space
  • community meeting space
  • viewing/programming areas
  • 1200 square metre gymnastics space, and
  • three indoor sports courts with retractable seating for 900 people.

The YMCA is already considering a variety of programs such as daytime netball, holiday programs and yoga. Jets Gymnastics will provide specialised programs to the local community from the state-of-the-art gymnastics centre, which is also expected to host national level events in the future.

The Diamond Valley Basketball Association, Diamond Creek Netball Association and the Diamond Creek Basketball Club will run their expanded competition and training programs from the new venue.

The ‘show court’, with its large seating capacity, is expected to host sporting events and activities. And a number of soundproofing elements, acoustics and blackout capabilities have been included in the design to provide the stadium with the capacity to host community concerts, plays and other performances.

Located in the education precinct between the Diamond Creek East Primary School and Diamond Valley College, school students will have regular access to the stadium for sporting activities, school performances and events.

The stadium will also be available for use by other schools, local businesses and community groups who can take advantage of the community meeting space on the mezzanine level overlooking the sports courts and gymnastics centre.
