Human Rights Charter

Victoria's Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities outlines the basic human rights of all people in Victoria. It was introduced into Victoria through an act of Parliament, the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006.

The Charter requires all public authorities, including local councils, to act in accordance with Charter rights in the delivery of services and when making decisions.

The Charter gives specific legal protection to 20 fundamental rights. Nillumbik recognises and respects these rights.

More information on the Charter can be found at the Department of Justice and the Human Rights Commission Victoria.
