Work Experience

Council is committed to assisting students in their development and enhancement of skills and knowledge through work experience. Council’s work experience program provides students with an understanding of local government and exposure to a formal work environment.

Work experience is available for secondary, TAFE and tertiary students. The maximum placement period is two weeks per student. Students must be 15 years or older to obtain a placement.

The following are examples of possible work experience placements available:

  • Municipal Laws
  • Edendale Farm
  • Administration (general)
  • Urban Planning
  • Engineering
  • Operations Centre (including parks and gardens and maintenance etc.)


Applying for work experience

Applicants must include the dates of the requested placement and list the type/s of work experience required. Requests for work experience must be in writing and sent to Organistional Development via email to work.experience@nillumbik.vic.gov.au .

Due to increased interest in Council’s work experience program, spaces are limited and do fill quickly.  Students are advised to submit their application as early as possible.
