3 year old preschool
The Victorian State Government is rolling out funding for preschool (kindergarten) programs for all 3 year olds across Victoria. This 3 year old preschool service will be available in Nillumbik in 2022. From 2022, 3 year old children across Nillumbik Shire will have access to five funded hours per week in a program led by a qualified teacher. From 2023, services will be able to offer between 5-15 hours of funded preschool.
Your child must turn 3 by 30 April in the year of attendance. Families with children born between January and April 30 may choose whether to enrol their children in the year they turn three, or the following year. Factors to take into consideration include the individual child’s developmental and learning levels, family circumstances and preferred school starting age. Depending on the setting your child may not be able to physically attend preschool until they have turned 3 years of age.
Similar to that of 4 year old preschool, Council will centrally manage 3 year old preschool registrations for the sixteen standalone preschools in Nillumbik which operate from council-owned or managed buildings. View a list and map of Nillumbik preschools. Council will collect applications, register children in the central system, allocate a preschool place to the child and liaise with families in relation to their 3 year old preschool registration.
Some child care centres in Nillumbik offer funded 3 year old preschool programs, which are not part of Council's central registration system. Applications must be made directly with the centre. View a list of child care centres in Nillumbik that are not part of our centralised enrolment system.
