Health and Wellbeing Plan

Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan

The Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2017 - 2021 is a statutory requirement of Council under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.  The Plan includes an analysis of local health determinants and was developed with the involvement of the community to identify a strategic approach to:

  • Promote healthy eating and sustainable food - support the availability, accessibility and acceptability of healthy, sustainable and fair food consistent with the Australian dietary guidelines, and actively encourage the growth of a more sustainable and socially inclusive food system
  • Encourage active living - to get more people physically active through walking and sport, and promote reduced sitting during the day, especially in workplaces
  • Enhance mental wellbeing - to build resilience and community participation through safe, respectful, connected and equitable communities
  • Advance gender equality and respectful relationships - to reduce violence against women and children in our community
  • Prevent harm from alcohol, other drugs and gambling - support people and create environments to prevent harm from alcohol, other drugs and gambling
  • Improve sexual and reproductive health - improve the sexual and reproductive health outcomes for people living in Nillumbik
  • Support healthy ageing - to optimise opportunities for health, participation, lifelong learning, and diverse housing to enhance quality of life as people age
