'Age on the Page' poetry challenge

Throughout the second half of 2021, Nillumbik Shire Council invited residents to reject ageist stereotypes and prejudice with poetry.

Council’s inaugural Age on the Page poetry challenge was an opportunity for residents aged 55 and over to tap into their creative side, attend a free poetry workshop, and even win an award!

Residents were asked to write poems that addressed any or all of the following themes: Independence, Elder, Challenging Stereotypes, Identity and Wisdom.

The award winners were announced by poet, Anne M. Carson after a reading of shortlisted poems at a celebration event in Hurstbridge.

You can read the winning poems below, or download the pdf Digital Anthology of all poems submitted as part of ‘Age on the Page’.

Thank you to everyone who helped make ‘Age on the Page’ a success by attending a poetry workshop or submitting a poem.
