Applications for three-year-old and four-year-old preschool (kindergarten) are open. Families can apply online via the Nillumbik Council website or by posting a hard copy form.
The State Government is funding preschool programs for all three–year-old children across Victoria.
From 2022, three-year-olds in Nillumbik will have access to five funded hours of preschool per week in a program led by a qualified teacher.
From 2023, services will be able to offer between five-fifteen hours of funded preschool.
Similar to that of four-year-old preschool, Council is centrally managing three-year-old preschool registrations for the 16 standalone preschools in Nillumbik that operate from council-owned or managed buildings.
Council collects applications, registers children in the central system, allocates a preschool place to the child and liaises with families in relation to their registration.
Some child care centres in Nillumbik will offer funded three–year-old preschool programs, which are not part of Council's central registration system. Applications must be made directly with that centre.
A recent report found that two years of preschool has more impact than one, especially for children who may be developmentally vulnerable.
Preschool play-based education has positive effects on early language and literacy development as well as positive social effects for our children.
To help decide which preschool your child should attend, please contact the preschool and arrange a time to meet with the teacher and tour the service. You can view a list and map of Nillumbik preschools on the website at nillumbik.vic.gov.au/preschool. Residents who live outside of Nillumbik are also welcome to apply.
Applications for the first round of offers close on 30 June 2021 for 2022 three and four-year-old attendance.
