Council has received just over $2.2 million as part of the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

These funds will allow Council to complete important road safety works at key locations that have a recorded history of vehicle crashes. Council has undertaken detailed preliminary studies and estimates to determine the net benefit that could be achieved by the project, measured in terms of potential reduction in road trauma.

Works will include

  • Localised widening at bends to seal the road shoulder and / or roadside drain
  • Install signage and line marking to improve delineation
  • Sealing the first 10 metres of the intersection of Church Road with Pine Road and Battery Road, and the first 20 metres of Church Road with Major Road
  • Localised installation of guardrail at known run-off-the-road areas – a total length of 220 metres of additional guardrail is proposed
  • Install traffic islands at the intersection of Gosfield Road with Church Road, maintaining the existing intersection priority
  • Install rumble strips at the Church Road south-bound approach to the intersection with Gosfield Road
  • Replace the existing non-standard guardrail at the Heidelberg-Kinglake Road end of Church Road
  • Speed reduction from 80km/h to 60km/h between Heidelberg-Kinglake Road and Bates Road.

Council has taken all measures to minimise the impact on vegetation and has prepared a design not requiring the removal of any vegetation. Please note that during construction, Council will have an arborist on-site to support supervising works to monitor and support the mitigation of vegetation impacts.

Please refer to the attached plan (listed under 'Related information') highlighting the sections of Church Road where works will be occurring.
