A new regional playspace in Diamond Creek
The Diamond Creek Regional Playspace has been constructed at Diamond Creek Reserve - near Marngrook Oval, the Diamond Creek Bowls Club and the off-leash dog park.
This fantastic nature-themed playspace has been designed for all ages and abilities, and works closely with the natural, parkland environment.
It features dedicated junior and senior play areas, flying foxes, nature play and cubby area. There are also picnic shelters, seats, tables, barbecues, and public toilets.
The playspace is easily accessible from the Diamond Creek Trail, and the car park behind the Bowls Club has been upgraded as part of the project.
In June/July 2019 the community was invited to participate in refining concept designs for the playground. Construction began in March 2020 and was completed in October 2020.
Alongside the playspace is the Tram Café, operated by the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek.
The Diamond Creek Rotary Tram project involved the refurbishment of an historic W-class tram, one of 130 retired Yarra trams given a new home through the State Government.
Members of the Diamond Creek Rotary Tram Project, volunteers and many sponsors and supporters spent almost two years restoring the tram to its former glory.
Valley Community Services Limited, Bendigo Bank donated $20,000 towards the deck and roof structure of the tram. This was matched by Council and the cheques were presented to the Diamond Creek Rotary Club at the sod turning event in March.

As part of the playspace project, a labyrinth has also been constructed. A labyrinth is a simple, non-intrusive contemplative pathway set in the landscape used for walking exercise and meditation. The concept is often described as a stress management space and a spiritual place to relax. Walking the labyrinth is a detour from the everyday path of individual lives and an opportunity to slow down and reflect in the natural bushland setting of Diamond Creek.
The community was invited to share their thoughts about the labyrinth via the Participate Nillumbik website in September 2020.
Construction of the labyrinth began in September 2020 and was completed in October 2020.
