Montsalvat is delighted to welcome the Rebecca Barnard Quartet to the 2023 Jazz Series at Montsalvat.
After forty years as a beloved staple in the Australian music industry, Rebecca has recorded her first jazz album “The Night We Called it a Day”. The album is a culmination of years of Rebecca’s life in music – a resplendent arrival in sunny pastures by one of Australia’s cultural treasures. Rebecca effortlessly breathes soul and connectivity into this album of refreshingly under-exposed jazz standards dating from 1937-1963. The production style is reminiscent of artists such as Madeleine Peyroux and Melody Gardot.
The line up for this concert includes all the players on the album - pianist/composer Monique diMattina, Ben Robertson on bass, Sam Lemann on guitar, Paul Williamson on sax, Steve Grant on trumpet and a special guest appearance by Rebecca’s son Harry O’Mara on drums. They will be performing the new album in its entirety and also some favourite jazz standards that Rebecca performed with her father Len and Uncle Bob Barnard at Montsalvat Jazz Festival over the years.
All proceeds from the concert will go to the restoration of Lily’s Cottage, one of the original Montsalvat buildings.
