Solar farm information session
Nillumbik Shire Council is developing a solar farm at the former Plenty landfill site near Council’s Operations and Recycling Centre on Yan Yean Road.
The 1.5MW first stage will be large enough to supply renewable energy to power all of Council’s corporate facilities and street lighting, delivering significant environmental benefits to our community. It will also power electric vehicle charging stations.
The facility will consist of more than 3300 solar panels, which will generate about 2200MW/h of renewable energy each year. The site can accommodate an expansion of the solar farm up to 5MW as demand grows.
Council has entered into a partnership with renewable energy project company LMS Energy, who are designing and constructing the project. LMS Energy will be responsible for the cost of developing, operating and maintaining the solar farm and will lease the site from Council.
Construction is estimated to start mid-2022 and is expected take approximately 12 months.
We will be hosting a COVID-safe community pop-up information session on site next to Council’s Operations and Recycling Centre, 290 Yan Yean Road, Plenty, on:
- Saturday 27 November, 10am-12pm
You will be able to ask questions about the solar farm and view the designs.
