16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
Council is proud to once again lead the wider Shire in supporting the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign in 2020.
The campaign begins on Monday 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women), and concludes on Tuesday 10 December (International Human Rights Day).
Nillumbik Shire Council is committed to preventing violence against women and promoting gender equality.
This is an important issue that affects many people, and we are certainly not immune in Nillumbik. In 2018-2019 there were 455 family violence incidents in our Shire, and intimate partner violence remains the greatest health risk factor for women aged 25-44. There is no excuse for any type of violence or disrespect, and we need to work together to call it out.
Council is offering small grants of up to $500 to support awareness-raising and community-led projects that promote challenging gender stereotypes, calling out disrespectful and sexist behaviour, and promote gender equality. The projects will take place during the 16 Days in late 2020. Find out more and apply here.
Please check this page in October when we announce the full program of events - we welcome all members of the community to come along and find out more about this important issue!
