Nillumbik Council recognises the important role that local government plays in promoting gender equity. Council is committed to facilitating improved participation, leadership and access for women, girls and individuals who identify as female. 

We are on the lookout for women who are passionate about their community and are willing to take the challenge of learning a range of skills so they can apply their new found knowledge into leading and inspiring other women in our shire to connect and make a difference in their community.

The aim of the program is to develop emerging women leaders across all areas of Nillumbik community.

This program will bring women together with health, wellbeing and leadership experts to learn a range of skills in visioning, project planning, design and activation. The program is action based, so participants will apply their new skills and knowledge to real life projects and situations with the support of peers and Council.

Core learning areas include:

  • Health and wellbeing: Creating the right conditions that will support your leadership journey
  • Strategy: Clarify your project’s unique value and position in your community
  • Design: Learn a people-centered process for developing and testing new ideas
  • Action: Develop your unique way of leading that stems from your values

The program will commence with an intensive two day health and wellbeing program run over two Saturdays in partnership with healthAbility followed by six weekly leadership workshops, a graduation and a follow-up reflection workshop later in the year.

Eligibility Criteria:

The program is open to women, girls and individuals who identify as female aged 18 years and over who:

  • Live, Work, Volunteer, Study or Play Nillumbik
  • Must be available to attend all sessions

Health and wellbeing program:

By building the confidence and capacity of women in our community we hope to create strong communication advocates that will continue to support the development and overall health and wellbeing of our women in our community well beyond the life of the project. These leaders will work with council by creating programs and projects that combats social isolation and builds community resilience and strong network opportunities and they will become community champions across our shire.
