Nillumbik Shire Council hosts citizenship ceremonies on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs.
All applications for Australian citizenship are processed by the Department of Home Affairs. Further information on how to apply for Australian citizenship is available from Australian citizenship or call the Citizenship Information Line on 131 880.
Once you have become an Australian Citizen through the Department of Home Affairs, they will send you an invitation to a citizenship ceremony. You will receive your invitation approximately four weeks before the ceremony. It can take three to six months to receive an invitation to a ceremony. Note: due to an increase in approved applicants, this may result in extended waiting times.
While Nillumbik hosts Australian citizenship ceremonies, we are unable to provide further information regarding the date and timing of your ceremony.
All ceremony enquiries should be directed to the Citizenship Information Line on 131 880.
Refer to the Department of Home Affairs for information about attending a citizenship ceremony, including what happens on the day, identification you need to bring to the ceremony, what to wear and assistance for special needs.
You will receive further information from Council regarding the details of the ceremony and information about the registration process.
Additional ceremony dates for 2026 to be confirmed.
Note: Dates are subject to change.
All queries relating to citizenship including applications, date of your ceremony and wait times should be directed to the Department of Home Affairs.
