Request a copy of a planning permit

You may need a copy of a planning permit and the endorsed plans to assist with preparation of your building permit application or for your records. Or you may require a list of all of the planning decisions made for a property.

To see planning permits that apply to a property, you can view our Planning Register or contact Planning Services. Note: permits issued prior to 1995 may not appear on the online register.

Before applying, note:

• Planning permits and plans will only be provided to the original applicant, the current owner or an agent for the owner with the written consent of the current owner.
• There is no guarantee that the required plans or documents will be available or of suitable quality.
• You will be emailed a PDF version of the permit and plans. If the permit has been issued, but the plans have not been endorsed, the plans will not be provided.
• Physical files are stored offsite, so access to these records can take up to 15 business days.

You can request:

• a PDF copy of a planning permit and the associated endorsed plans
•  a list of the dates and decisions of planning permits issued for a property.

Prepare your information

So we locate the correct permit, you will need to provide:

• the permit number/s
• the street address of the property
• details about the type of permit you are looking for.

If you are applying on behalf of the property owner or applicant, you will also need to provide written authorisation signed by the current owner.

If you have registered to use our online portal and have prepared all of the information listed above, it’s time to apply.

Next steps

When we receive your application, our Business Support team will search for the permit/s and plan/s. You can expect to receive an emailed response within 14 days. If there is a delay, we will let you know.

Note: there is no guarantee that the permit and plans will be available. If Council is unable to locate the documents, a refund will not apply.

If you only need to view the planning permit and plans, no charge applies. Email your request, including reasons as to why you need to view the information, to nillumbik@nillumbik.vic.gov.au and we will arrange this for you. Some information may be redacted.
