School Crossing Supervision

Are you community minded and passionate about keeping our youngest road users safe? Nillumbik Shire Council is always on the lookout for reliable and dedicated individuals interested in becoming School Crossing Supervisors.

We offer both permanent part time and casual roles, with flexible hours to suit your lifestyle.

As a School Crossing Supervisor, you’ll play a vital role in assisting pedestrians of all ages to safely cross busy roads at designated school crossings and traffic lights during peak times (8am to 9am and 3pm to 4pm Monday to Friday).

What you’ll do

  • Help children and other pedestrians cross the road safely at school crossings and traffic lights.
  • Make sure cars have stopped before letting people cross.
  • Encourage safe and sensible behaviour near the road.
  • Let us know if you notice any safety issues or problems at crossings.
  • Check the condition of your crossing regularly and share ideas to help improve safety.

What we’re looking for

  • Someone who enjoys working outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Someone who can stay focused and work on their own.
  • Someone who can get to different school crossings within the local area.
  • A valid Employee Working with Children Check (or be willing to get one).
  • Good judgement and awareness of traffic and road conditions.
  • Friendly and respectful communication with children, families and school staff.
