Cat and dog registrations

All cats and dogs in Nillumbik over three months of age must be registered. Your pet registration covers a one year period and must be renewed each year.

Pet registrations are different to animal permits. As well as registering your dog or cat, you may also require a permit if you want to keep more than two cats or more than two dogs.

Register a dog or cat

If you have a dog or cat that is three months of age or older, it must be registered with Nillumbik Shire Council.

Pay your pet registration renewal

Pay for your dog or cat registration renewal online, in person or by mail.

Update your pet registration details

Change the registration details for your cat or dog - including informing us about a change of address, applying for a fee reduction, or letting us know that your pet has passed away.

You can keep other animals in Nillumbik without a registration, however you may require a permit depending on the type and number of animals, and the size of your property. Find out more here.
