REthink Nillumbik is hosting a series of free workshops at the Nillumbik Repair Cafe. At these sessions, you can learn new skills to use at home, and also help Nillumbik reduce its waste and transition to a circular economy. A circular economy is one that repairs, reuses and repurposes objects rather than throwing them away.
At the September Lost Skills session, local sewist Sue Arnold (aka Miss Wattle) will introduce you to the beautiful and versatile art of sashiko, a Japanese technique for patching holes and tears in clothing and textiles. Learn the basics of sashiko and how the technique can be used to mend and embellish clothes and textiles.
Bring along an item that needs mending and you can work on it during the session. If you don't have anything at home, we'll provide some spare items of clothing for you to practise on.
Bookings are essential so we know how many people to cater for. The $5 entry fee is to cover materials.
All Lost Skills sessions are free to attend and open to everyone in Nillumbik. This session is great for anyone wanting to learn a handy new skill, save money by doing their own DIY, or support a circular economy by giving objects a new lease on life.
