Christmas opening hours

Nillumbik Shire Council would like to wish you a very merry Christmas and safe and Happy New Year.

Over the holiday period there will be changes to the operating hours of many Council services and facilities.

Customer service

The customer service desk at Civic Drive, Greensborough, will close at 1pm Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December and reopen at 9am, Tuesday 4 January.

Our call centre on 03 9433 3111 will operate:

  • Christmas Eve, Friday 24 December - 8.30am-1pm
  • Christmas Day, Saturday 25 December - closed
  • Boxing Day, Sunday 26 December - closed
  • Christmas Day public holiday, Monday 27 December - closed
  • Boxing Day public holiday, Tuesday 28 December - closed
  • Wednesday 29 December - 8.30am-5pm
  • Thursday 30 December - 8.30am-5pm
  • New Year's Eve, Friday 31 December - 8.30am-1pm
  • New Year's Day, Saturday 1 January - closed
  • Sunday, 2 January - closed
  • New Year's Day public holiday, Monday 3 January - closed
  • Tuesday 4 January - resume normal business hours of Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5pm.

Bin collection

Bins will be collected as normal over the Christmas and New Year period.

Recycling Centre and Reuse Shop

The Recycling Centre's normal operating hours are Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, 8am-4pm.

Closed public holidays and during extreme weather including high wind.

  • Christmas Day, Saturday 25 December - closed
  • Boxing Day, Sunday 26 December - closed
  • Christmas Day public holiday, Monday - closed
  • Boxing Day public holiday, Tuesday 28 December - closed
  • Wednesday 29 December - closed
  • Thursday 30 December - closed
  • New Year's Eve, Friday 31 December - 8am-4pm
  • New Year's Day, Saturday 1 January - closed
  • Sunday 2 January - 8am-4pm 
  • New Year's Day public holiday, Monday 3 January - closed.

Maternal and child health

Most MCH centres will be closed from 12pm on Thursday 24 December and will reopen during the week starting Monday 10 January.

Except:

  • Research MCH will open on Tuesday 4 January
  • Diamond Creek MCH will only be closed on the public holidays

A service for young babies will be provided from Diamond Creek MCH centre on:

  • Wednesday 29 December
  • Thursday 30 December
  • Friday 31 December
  • Tuesday 4 January
  • Wednesday 5 January
  • Thursday 6 January
  • Friday 7 January

Playhouses - Eltham and Panton Hill

Playhouses will be closed between Monday 20 December and Friday 28 January. Families will not be charged for these days.

  • Last day 2021: Friday 17 December
  • First day 2022: Monday 31 January  

Both Panton Hill and Eltham Playhouse have some vacancies for 2022. During the holiday closure period, new enquiries for a place can be still be made by emailing playhouse@nillumbik.vic.gov.au

Pound - lost and found animals

The Nillumbik Pound will operate normal opening hours over the Christmas and New Year period. 

These hours are:

  • 8.15am-12.30pm on weekdays
  • 8.15am-11.30am on weekends and public holidays

Please note:The pound is not open to the public. Releases are by appointment only. Find out more about collecting a lost pet from the pound.

Leisure centres, golf course and pools

Nillumbik Leisure Facilities

The Eltham Leisure Centre, Diamond Creek Community Centre, Diamond Creek Outdoor Pool and Community Bank Stadium will be closed on Christmas Day.

Community Bank Stadium will be closed from Wednesday 22 December and will reopen Wednesday 29 December.

The Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre is currently closed for redevelopment.

Please check with the facility websites for individual opening hours over the holiday period.

Yarrambat Park Golf Course and Goanna Golf

Closed Christmas Day, but open 6am-8pm all other days including public holidays.

Libraries

The Eltham and Diamond Valley branches of Yarra Plenty Regional Libraries will close 12pm on Christmas Eve, Friday 24 December.

  • Christmas Day, Saturday 25 December - closed
  • Boxing Day, Sunday 26 December - closed
  • Christmas Day public holiday, Monday 27 December - closed
  • Boxing Day public holiday, Tuesday 28 December - closed
  • Wednesday 29 December - 10am-5pm
  • Thursday 30 December 10am-5pm  
  • New Year's Eve, Friday 31 December, 10am-5pm
  • New Year's Day, Saturday 1 January - closed
  • Sunday 2 January - Eltham open 10am-5pm, Diamond Valley closed
  • Monday 3 January - All branches and services closed.

Normal library hours and services resume Tuesday 4 January.

Please note that the Return Chutes will be closed while the branches are closed.

The Hurstbridge Community Hub will close 2pm Thursday 23 December and reopen Monday 10 January.

The Mobile Library will be off the road from Friday 24 December and will resume normal services on Monday 31 January.

Living & Learning Nillumbik

Our three centres in Eltham, Diamond Creek and Panton Hill will close from 1pm, Friday 17 December and reopen Tuesday 11 January.

Edendale Community Environment Farm

The farm will now be taking a slightly longer break over Christmas. It will close 3pm on Christmas Eve, Friday 24 December, and reopen on Wednesday 29 December.

Current operating hours are 11am-3pm.

Cafe Eden will also be taking a break and will be closed from Friday 24 December, reopening on Thursday 13 January.

Hurstbridge Hub

The Hub will be closed from Friday 24 December. All programs and services and will resume on Monday 10 January.

Early Childhood Services (ECMS) will be closed from Thursday 23 December, resuming Monday 10 January.
