National Volunteer Week 2025 – Connecting Communities
Published on 30 April 2025
Council will celebrate the contributions of the Shire’s volunteers and acknowledge the spirit of connection and the impact volunteers have in building inclusive and thriving communities during National Volunteer Week (19 to 25 May).
This year National Volunteer Week celebrates the power of volunteering to bring people together with the theme ‘Connecting Communities’.
From supporting Council’s services to helping at events, providing transport, supporting families and older people, participating in sporting and community clubs and programs; volunteers are the connectors who make things happen.
Mayor John Dumaresq said National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to acknowledge the significant role volunteering plays in connecting our community.
“Nillumbik is fortunate to have over 6,000 dedicated volunteers whose daily contributions enrich our community. Because of their generosity and commitment, our Shire is a more connected, vibrant, and thriving place. On behalf of the Council, I extend our heartfelt thanks to every volunteer for the difference you make.” Cr Dumaresq said.
Throughout National Volunteer Week our social media accounts will showcase volunteering across Nillumbik. As a visible tribute, we will also contribute to the national celebration by lighting up the Eltham Gateway art structure in red.
On Thursday 22 May Council will host a volunteer recognition evening to say ‘thank you’ and to recognise the dedication, generosity and passion of volunteers in Nillumbik.
