Website accessibility statement

Nillumbik Shire Council is committed to providing a website that is accessible and easy for everyone to use.

We aim to ensure our digital content is inclusive and usable for people of all abilities.

Our commitment

We are working to ensure our website meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility. These guidelines help to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, including people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice recognition software or keyboard‑only navigation.

What we are doing

We strive to:

  • as much as possible, explain Council processes and services using plain language that is easy to understand
  • maintain clear, consistent page layouts
  • provide text alternatives for images and multimedia
  • ensure keyboard navigability
  • provide captions or transcripts for videos
  • recruit and train staff on best practice for web content
  • regularly review and update content to improve accessibility
  • ensure our content is optimised for mobile devices
  • provide key documents and policies in accessible formats.

We are continually improving our website and working to fix any issues identified in audits or reported by users.

Known limitations

While we aim for full compliance, some content may not yet meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Examples may include:

  • older documents (eg pdfs) not yet converted to accessible formats
  • third‑party content or systems we do not control
  • maps or complex diagrams without text alternatives

We are working to address these issues over time.

You can increase the size of the text on our website using the zoom function in your web browser.
