As a proud partner of the VICSES Nillumbik Unit, Council has helped facilitate the procurement of a new emergency response vehicle.
The specially equipped vehicle will assist in storm damage response and land-based swift water rescues, ensuring members have the tools they need to keep the community safe.
Mayor John Dumaresq recently visited the VICSES Nillumbik Unit in Eltham to meet with dedicated members, tour the facilities, and inspect the new vehicle.
Cr Dumaresq praised the work of the VICSES Nillumbik Unit.
"Nillumbik SES is one of the most highly regarded units in the state and I am so impressed by the work our volunteers do,” Cr Dumaresq said.
“This new Ford Ranger will enhance the unit's emergency response capabilities, allowing them to continue to serve and protect our community during critical situations."
As the control agency for floods, storms, tsunamis, earthquakes, and landslides throughout Victoria, VICSES also leads Australia’s largest road rescue network.
The new vehicle is designed to carry multiple stretchers and essential 4x4 recovery gear, improving the unit’s capacity to reach and assist those in emergencies, often in remote locations.
In 2024, VICSES Nillumbik responded to 698 incidents, playing a crucial role in protecting lives and property across the Shire.
Section Leader Vehicle Fleet at VICSES Nillumbik Mitch Drage highlighted the vehicle’s impact.
“This new vehicle marks a significant boost to the safety and resilience of our Nillumbik community,” Mr Drage said.
“It enhances the Nillumbik SES's capacity to respond to storms and floods, while also extending our ability to reach remote areas to assist bushwalkers, trail runners, and cyclists in distress.”
Council is proud to continue its strong partnership with VICSES Nillumbik, ensuring the unit is well-equipped to carry out its life-saving work in the community.
