Council has released an updated Draft Budget 2026–2027 for community feedback.
The updated draft includes several key changes, including bringing forward critical landfill rehabilitation works at Kangaroo Ground, securing new external grant funding for road safety projects, and planning ahead for unexpected events to ensure the continuity of essential services.
Works at the Kangaroo Ground Landfill will now commence earlier than originally planned.
The project will be funded through existing reserves and $2 million in borrowings, with costs to be recovered through the Waste Management Charge from 2027–2028.
Council has secured additional grant funding from the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) for road safety projects across the municipality.
Most of these works will be fully externally funded, with minimal impact on Council’s overall financial position.
The updated draft also includes provision for a new $3 million loan to establish an Operational Resilience and Continuity Reserve from 2026–2027.
This reserve would only be drawn on if all other savings or service reduction options are exhausted and would support continuity of critical services during fuel supply disruptions or other external shocks.
The community is invited to provide feedback on the updated Draft Budget 2026–2027 until 5pm, Wednesday 3 June.
