Recreation Trails Advisory Committee

The Recreation Trails Advisory Committee (RTAC) provides a formal mechanism for Council to consult with key stakeholders, seek specialist advice and enable community participation in the development and review of new and existing recreation trails within the Shire of Nillumbik.

Objectives

The Committee’s objectives are to:

  • assist and advise Council regarding key issues
  • provide a forum for dissemination and consideration of information to the local community
  • assist and support Council prepare recreation trail development proposals and funding applications
  • provide advice on the design of proposed trails
  • assist Council with the development of recreation trail promotional material and events
  • assist Council monitor recreation trail use and condition
  • respond to and provide advice on any proposed strategy, policy or action plan relating to recreation trails developed by Council
  • undertake other recreation trail initiatives as necessary.

Committee period

Committee members are appointed for a two-year term.

The current term ceases in May 2025. Submissions for the Recreational Trails Advisory Committee 2025-27 closed at midnight 7 April 2025 (AEST)

This Committee is chaired by a Councillor representative who is appointed annually at Council's Extraordinary Meeting held in November.

About the committee

Every two years, Council will seek expressions of interest from the community to help identify improvement opportunities for the existing trail network and advocate for future trail projects.

This is a formal EOI process with focus on representatives of:

  • Friends or Landcare groups
  • horse riding community
  • cycling community
  • walking groups/trail walkers
  • wider community (urban and rural)
  • advocates for tourism advocates for people with a disability.

Meetings

Advisory Committee meetings are held three times per year, in March, July and November.

Meetings will be held at Council offices, Civic Drive Greensborough.

Minutes from each Committee meeting are confirmed at the next meeting of the Committee.
