Edendale Revegetation Project - Community Planting Day 18 May

decorative

The Friends of Edendale are seeking volunteers to participate in our first community planting day for 2025.

Essential to the success of this revegetation is the involvement of our community volunteers who have very generously supported us since the inception of the project in getting some 2,000 plants into the ground. Our target for 2025 is an additional 1,000 plants planted on our community planting days.

The implementation of this exciting project focuses on the vital importance of the Diamond Creek as a wildlife corridor/bio link. This project started in 2022 under the generous support of Melbourne Water through their Planting4Platypus initiative.

Over the three years 2024 to 2027, this project is being funded by the Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program, with the support of Edendale Farm (Nillumbik Shire) and the Friends of Edendale.

This funding is enabling us to continue revegetation to restore the riparian indigenous vegetation community and the opportunity to expand our revegetation to the steeper banks of the Diamond Creek to rehabilitate the potential for platypus habitat. We will also be able to develop signage that explains the project and the role it plays providing information on the flora and fauna and a range of activities that encourage active participation in learning about the environmental importance of waterways as wildlife corridors.
