"It's All Greek to Me!" - talk with home-made afternoon tea
In “It’s All Greek to Me!”, Jan explores the relevance of Homer’s “Iliad” and “Odyssey” to readers in the 21st century, and encourages us to read these, and other Greek Classics, with an open mind, and with a view to understanding events which happened 3,000 years ago.
Did the Trojan War really happen? Why did it take Odysseus so long (ten years) to get back to his home on Ithaca? Was the beautiful Helen a real person, or a mythical creature born of gods?
Jan Bailey, a long-time local resident, is a retired tertiary teacher, who has long been a passionate student of archaeology, fulfilling her fascination with yearly visits to excavation sites in the North-eastern Anatolia region of Turkey.
She is an historian and researcher, and her other passion is the English language. Over many years she has honed her craft of writing and editing while working with both high-school and mature-age students, as well as transcribing and writing papers for publishing in archaeological journals, alongside her archaeology colleagues.
