REthink Nillumbik is hosting a series of free workshops at the Nillumbik Repair Cafe. At these sessions, you can learn fantastic new skills to use at home and also help Nillumbik reduce waste and transition to a circular economy. A circular economy is one that repairs, reuses and repurposes objects rather than throwing them away.

March Lost Skills: Darn holes in fine knitwear and socks

Learn how to repair holes in fine knitwear and socks using traditional darning techniques. This session covers assessing damage, choosing suitable yarns, and creating strong, neat repairs that will hold together across the life of your garment. The session will teach both visible and invisible mending techniques and discuss ways to stop moths from attacking your favourite woollens.

Mending helps extend the life of your clothing, reduce textile waste, and preserve well-made garments for ongoing use. Attendees are encouraged to bring along an item of clothing to work on during the session and will receive advice and support in repairing it themselves. If you don't have an item to work on, we'll have some practice clothing available.

Workshop is free, but bookings are essential.
