Report a bin not emptied

If you find that your bin has not been emptied on its usual collection day, there may have been a problem with the contents, weight or placement of the bin.

Follow the process below to request another collection.

How to report

Online

Step 1.Check for a sticker on your bin

Usually we place a sticker on your bin telling you why it was not collected. 

Step 2.Check the contents and placement of your bin

Your bin may not have been emptied because:

  • it contained incorrect items (see 'What to put in each bin')
  • it was not out by 6.00am on collection day
  • it was overfilled (bin lid must close completely)
  • it was too heavy (bin must not weigh more than 50kgs)
  • it was not at the agreed collection point
  • bins were too close together (they should be placed at least 50cm apart)
  • a car or something else was blocking the bin or road
  • it was picked up, but all the contents didn’t come out

Step 3.Make sure you have the right bin

We do not service bins that do not belong to Nillumbik Shire Council or that belong to a commercial property. 

Step 4.Complete the online form

Step 5.Leave your bin out for collection

Make sure any problems (incorrect contents, overfilled, too heavy etc) have been fixed.

Leave your bin out by 6.00am the next business day.

What happens next?

Your bin will be picked up within three business days.

Please note that requests made after 2.30pm will count as being lodged the next business day.
