Our Placemaking Grants aim to assist individuals and groups with the delivery of placemaking activities in Nillumbik.

Placemaking activities play an important role in townships across the Shire and can provide social, economic and cultural benefits to the region and its communities.

The purpose of this grant is to assist community groups and local residents in the delivery of placemaking activities across Nillumbik to enhance the user experience within public places and spaces. These activities are supported by Nillumbik’s Placemaking Framework(PDF, 2MB)

2025/26 grant recipients

Diamond Valley Lions Club

Lions Park Accessible and Inclusive Play Equipment | $2,035
The installation of wheelchair and accessible playground equipment to complement the work already done at the Lion's Park in Diamond Creek will create a tranquil and enjoyable place away from the bustle of the more populous playgrounds around the walking track. Perfect for families and children with sensory sensitivities.

Edible Hub Community Garden

Edible Hub Bushfoods Garden | $2,100
The Edible Hub community garden in Hurstbridge is creating a bushfoods area, with edible native plants and local artwork.

Lions Club of Eltham

Diwali 2025 | $3,500
Diwali is celebrated by the Indian diaspora around the world. The Lions Club of Eltham wants to celebrate Diwali in Eltham to celebrate diversity and multiculturalism. Past four Diwali events have brought artists, extended family and friends, and residents of various faiths and cultures who live in and around Eltham to the Town Centre.

NillumBUG

Eltham Festival Bike Parking | $1,005
NillumBUG (Nillumbik Bike User Group) will provide a bike parking and minding service at the Eltham Festival. By providing a safe parking space for bikes while their riders are enjoying themselves, they will encourage more people to use this environmentally friendly mode of transport to travel to the festival.

Allwood Neighbourhood House

Allwood StoryScapes | $3,190
Connecting locals to create a sense of belonging and place through stories, poems and songs. Meandering through Allwood gardens whilst listening to audio recordings of local people telling local stories in a local voice.

Eltham Chamber of Commerce

Pocket Urban Space - Commercial Place, Eltham | $2,289
Transformation of a section of Commercial Place car park into a pocket-sized urban activation space. This project will introduce greenery, seating, and cultural elements to create a welcoming, sustainable public space for ongoing activations and community engagement.

The Lions Club of Eltham

Eltham Lions Chinese New Year | $3,500
Sharing Chinese culture with the local community, through music, ‍dance, poetry, stories and food to celebrate this great cultural event, celebrated by over 1.5 billion people.

Nillumbik Historical Society

Ellis Cottage Signage and Visitor Facilities | $ 2,960
Roadside and building signage to promote the joint location of Ellis Cottage and the Nillumbik Historical Society, and casual outdoor seating in the Ellis Cottage precinct as a joint community project between the Diamond Valley College students and the Society.

Nillumbik Leisure Facilities

Move Your Body Your Way | $945
Empowering community to use local spaces for physical activity breaking down barriers to exercise. Hosting free workshops in community spaces, demonstrating workouts for anyone, no matter their age or fitness level.

Research Community Garden

Research Community Garden Growth | $3,652
Expansion of the recently created garden into other areas in the same strip of land. There will be four wicking beds, and a focus on berries and bush foods.

Eltham Lions Club

Diwali Festival in Eltham Town Square | $3,000
A cultural celebration of Diwali at Eltham Town Square on 18 November 2023, consisting of artists, music, dancing, and Indian Food prepared by local Indian restaurants.

Hurstbridge Jazz Club

Allwood House International Jazz Day Concert | $4,500
The Hurstbridge Jazz Club, in partnership with Allwood House, will put on a free and family-friendly 1920’s Jazz Age Lawn Party to mark International Jazz Day and to celebrate the historical nature of the Allwood House gardens.

The Left Bank St Andrews

St Andrews Left Bank Wayfinding Signage | $3,360
Installation of three wayfinding signs within the Left Bank district in St Andrews, which will support visitors to navigate the experiences and offerings at the location.

Plenty Historical Society

Garden Beautification | $1,908
Enhancing the outside area north of the Historic Church into 'Our Place in Plenty', through the installation of an outdoor bench, a bird bath, additional native shrubs, and a small area for community to gather.

Research Community Garden

Research Gully Reserve Community Garden | $3,531
The installation of four additional wicking beds at Research Gully Reserve Community Garden, as well as the development and installation of a rustic wooden sign.
