Health and accommodation businesses

In Nillumbik, all health and accommodation businesses must be registered with Nillumbik Shire Council and follow regulations to help minimise health risks.

Under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 you must register the place of business (premises) where you provide personal care, body art services or prescribed accommodation.

Health businesses include (but are not limited to):	Accommodation businesses include (but are not limited to):
hairdressing beauty therapy treatments including makeup, waxing, threading, manicures, pedicures, spray tans, microdermabrasion and facials colonic irrigation tattooing and cosmetic tattooing body and ear piercing makeup skin penetration procedures including dry needling, micro-blading, laser and electrolysis wet cupping	residential accommodation hotels and motels hostels or student dormitories farm stays or holiday camps rooming houses bed and breakfasts accommodating more than five people rooming/shared houses accommodating four or more people guesthouses and boutique hotels

Note: all commercial tanning units are banned in Victoria.

Operating a health business

If you are starting a beauty therapy, skin penetration, personal care, body art, hairdressing or other health business, you will need to register the business with Council.

Operating a prescribed accommodation business

If you are starting a prescribed accommodation business, you will need to register the business with Council.

Request pre-purchase inspection of a health or accommodation premises

If you plan to buy an existing health or accommodation business, or start a new health or accommodation business, you can request that Council conduct a pre-purchase inspection to ensure the suitability of the premises for registration.

Register a new health or accommodation business

If you are starting a personal care, body art, hairdressing, beauty therapy, prescribed accommodation or other health and beauty business, you will need to register the business with Council.
