Council elections

Nillumbik Shire Council is divided into seven wards with a total of seven Councillors. Each year one of the Councillors is elected to be Mayor by their peers. Since 2008 all Victorian Councillors serve a four year term.

The last general election for the Shire of Nillumbik was held on Saturday 24 October 2020 and new Councillors were sworn in at a special Council meeting on Tuesday 17 November 2020. The next Council election is in 2024.

Infringement Notices

The VEC has issued infringement notices to persons who either did not respond to the Apparent Failure to Vote Notice or where their reason for not voting has been deemed insufficient reason to be excused for failing to vote at the 2020 general election.

All enquiries from non-voters should be directed to the VEC’s compulsory voting centre on 1300 551 575. 

Campaign donations

Under the Local Government Act 2020:

Within 40 days of election day, a person who was a candidate in the election must give an election campaign donation return to the Chief Executive Officer (section 306(1)) and a summary of the election donation returns must be published on Council’s website (section 307(2)).

Candidate Information Request Register

In accordance with section 6.5 of Council’s Election Period Policy, an Information Request Register will be maintained from 17 September 2020 to 24 October 2020. The Register will be updated regularly by Council’s Governance team. All requests by candidates will be added to this register to ensure equity of information for all candidates.
