Since Living & Learning Nillumbik opened in Eltham in 1975 offering courses in marionette puppetry, folk guitar and bird watching, it has established itself as a community hub where people can share, learn and connect.

The whole community is invited as Living & Learning Nillumbik celebrates its 50-year milestone with a special open day at Eltham Living & Learning on Sunday 14 September.

The open day will feature free activities including demonstrations and displays, market stalls, food, local entertainment and kids’ activities.

Mayor John Dumaresq said Living & Learning Nillumbik has been central to the social and creative lives of many residents throughout the Shire over the past 50 years.

“The Living & Learning Nillumbik hubs are places where people can explore arts, crafts, writing, home and garden, music, digital mentoring, health and fitness, MakerSpaces, and many other activities,” Cr Dumaresq said.

“Fifty years since its inception, Living & Learning Nillumbik continues to strengthen the bonds of community and support lifelong learning, help locals gain confidence, create new connections, upskill and try new career options,” he said.

Living & Learning Nillumbik has three hubs: Diamond Creek, Eltham and Panton Hill.

The open day is an opportunity to check out the Eltham Hub and learn more about what is on offer. It will bring together current and past participants, volunteers and staff to celebrate the vital role Living & Learning Nillumbik plays in the community.

As well as free food and activities, there will also bewonderful local entertainment and the chance for participants to share their stories about Living & Learning Nillumbik.

The open day will run from 10am-2pm on Sunday 14 September at Eltham Living & Learning, 739 Main Road, Eltham.
