We are extremely disappointed to confirm that the local cenotaph in Eltham was deliberately defaced with paint overnight.
The cenotaph is a place of deep significance for our community, serving as a permanent tribute to those who served and sacrificed for our country. Acts of vandalism against such a site are deeply disrespectful and distressing to veterans, their families, and the wider community.
Arrangements have been made for the cenotaph to be cleaned as a matter of urgency, and we are working to ensure it is restored to its proper condition as quickly as possible.
We condemn this act in the strongest possible terms and encourage anyone with information that may assist in identifying those responsible to contact police.
